Economist on "Median Career Productivity of 6-7th year Finance AP"

I would say

One JF/RFS/JFE + one JFQA/MS

would put one at median of career productivity distribution for APs with one tenure clock long experience.

What do you think?

Economist on "It's so nice when I start a new paper"

A new idea..

So much hope..

Especially if the idea is mine, and I feel it's a good one..

I feel so nice..

When I have to revise old papers, especially if I have to do what other people told me to do (especially when I don't agree with what they are saying), it's such a pain in the ass...

New papers, new projects, so nice to work on something new -- makes me feel happy about research and academia

Economist on "Have you sent your paper to EJ with referee reports from failed submissions?"

In the website, they say "To improve the speed and quality of decisions the EJ encourages authors to include editors' letters and referee reports from failed submissions at other journals."

I have a theory paper rejected at JET about a year ago with two reports. One referee gave me the R&R with good comments and the other rejected. Since then, I have revised it substantially.

I have two questions. First, when I submit my paper to EJ, is it better to attach those reports? Second, if so, does it help to shorten the review period?

Is Applied Economics an A journal in China? I observe many Chinese publishing in that journal.

...an undergraduate to publish his final thesis?

He seems to have done a kind of interesting piece of paper about central bank and independence. He wants to publish it cause he says it would give him more appeal to the phd admission committee.

So basically we are looking for a very low and not clubby journal in meeecro/monetary.

Any advice?

PS. I know he will never get his work published but I want him to have a fair try.

Bros,

I'm an Accounting PhD student with an interest in Macro Finance. Can I do some sort of hybrid Macro Finance - Accounting research that satisfies my interests AND gets me tenure in the future? Or do i have to pick one?

I have my paper in almost all repositories except NBER.
What's the criteria for submission? Please suggest what is the proper way to upload my working paper to NBER server. Thanks in advance.

I mean B grade management journals that don't charge authors even a penny for publishing their papers. Any out there?

Economist on "Political scientist here: How to publish in your journals?"

Some of our political scientists have been publishing in your top journals lately:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.3982/ECTA10125/abstract
http://fowler.ucsd.edu/evolutionary_origins_of_the_endowment_effect.pdf
https://www.aeaweb.org/articles.php?doi=10.1257/0002828054825538

How does one get into AER or QJE or AEJ or one of the worse journals? How would one go about this with mostly political topics? Do I need to run some instrumental variables stuff or would a survey experiment with a question about money suffice? Would it help if survey experiment was in Africa?

Or in most case it is just a matter of having a high number of publications with interesting and novel research insights, regardless of the quality of the empirical analysis

Just finished the third draft of a paper (1-1.5 years working on that) and I really think it's a top 10 meat. It's applied microeconomics (with a theoretical model). Which journal fits best? Is there any consensus about TOP 6-10?

Economist on "Publication Ladder: is it wrong (detrimental) to start low?"

As a young researcher I found it difficult (impossible) to publish in top journals (top 5, 20, 100)--I'm a graduate of HRM, working in MRM at best now. Naturally some of my papers have trickled down to journals ranked in 300-400 (worst) and 100-200 (best). Is that detrimental (so will be stagnant forever there), or encouraging (of an increasing trend of quality that might eventually hit something up there)?

(PS. I read nearly all the threads about similar topics here in EJMR, and I enjoyed the feedback of people. New to EJMR, and so far liking it--I choose to read the good stuff :)

Rejection. After five months. Message to editors: Don't be such asshooles to wait five months to send me a rejection the day before Christmas. Sad. Show a little bit of empathy.

Economist on "Applied theorist planning to do empirics: reduced form or structural?"

I am an applied theorist in the area of e commerce and io. I am planning to do empirical work in the area but am not yet sure about whether I should do reduced form work or structural work. Structural seems to fit more with my approach to problems but I am worried about its acceptance, particularly from someone who is new to it and has self learned the method. On the other hand reduced form seems easy to use but does not fit well with my theoretical approach.
